From removal to the roof deck
Removing the existing roofing allows the underlying deck to be evaluated. Damaged or unsuitable decking may require repair before the new system is installed. Conditions that were concealed during the initial inspection should be documented and discussed rather than covered over.
- Removal of existing roofing within the agreed scope
- Evaluation of exposed decking and discussion of necessary repairs
- Synthetic underlayment and ice and water protection where appropriate
The details that connect the system
We plan these components where required by the roof design, manufacturer instructions, existing construction or applicable code. Flashing and transitions deserve attention because water often enters at joints, penetrations and changes in roof geometry.
- Starter shingles and architectural shingles
- Valleys and roof-to-wall transitions
- Step flashing, roof-to-wall flashing and chimney flashing where applicable
- Pipe boots and other roof penetrations
- Ventilation and ridge vent where applicable
- Ridge cap and finishing details
Protecting the property and finishing the work
Before construction, discuss access, deliveries, landscaping and the areas that need special care. Cleanup is part of the project, followed by a final walkthrough or completion review and documentation of the finished scope. If gutters, fascia or other exterior components need attention, we can discuss coordinating that work with the roofing project.
Questions to ask before work begins
Ask which roofing components are included, how decking repairs will be handled, what ventilation approach is planned and how work around chimneys or walls will be detailed. A clear construction scope helps you compare options and understand the project without relying on vague promises.
