Find the roof problem. Plan the right repair.

A ceiling stain does not always identify where water entered the roof. Helms Construction evaluates the physical condition of roofing and related details so homeowners can make an informed repair decision.

A clear construction plan

Start with the
actual conditions.

An inspection begins with what you have observed: when the issue appeared, where water is visible and whether it followed a storm. We look at relevant roof areas, transitions and penetrations and document what can be observed. Some conditions may require additional access or opening a concealed area before the cause can be confirmed.

A localized repair may be appropriate when the surrounding roofing remains suitable. When deterioration or damage is broader, we explain the limitations of a repair and discuss replacement options. We do not describe a temporary measure as a permanent solution.

Common details worth checking

The inspection focuses on the affected area and the components that may contribute to the problem, rather than assuming every leak requires the same repair.

  • Damaged, displaced or missing shingles
  • Pipe boots and other penetrations
  • Step flashing and roof-to-wall transitions
  • Chimney flashing and skylight details where present
  • Valleys, drainage paths and nearby gutters

Temporary protection and follow-up

When damage leaves a home exposed, temporary tarping or emergency repair may help protect the affected area while permanent work is planned. Access, weather and the condition of the roof affect what can be done. Contact Helms to discuss the situation; do not climb onto a damaged roof to investigate it yourself.

Repairing connected damage

A roof problem may also affect fascia, soffit or interior finishes. Helms can coordinate related exterior repairs and interior paint or drywall work within the approved scope. The source of water intrusion should be addressed before finish repairs are treated as complete.

What to expect

  2. Evaluate the relevant areas

Inspect accessible roofing details and document observed conditions and any inspection limitations.

  3. Explain repair options

Review the proposed construction scope and whether localized repairs or a broader approach are appropriate.

  4. Complete and review the work
